Your chest is measured around you, at the fullest part. Chest width and Length are the garment laid flat: measure a shirt you love across the chest, armpit to armpit, and from the top of the shoulder by the collar down to the hem.
Sizes are youth sizes, not ages; use height and chest to pick. Between sizes? Size up. Each one is printed edge to edge and sewn by hand, so it can be up to 1 in (2.5 cm) off from the chart.
